If you are passionate about sport whether outdoor or indoor, you must take special care of your skin. Sweating and environmental factors like the sun and wind can imbalance your skin. These imbalances can lead to clogged pores, redness, irritation and inflammation – just to name a few.
We at RITES recommend these six sport specific skincare tips:
- Cleanse your skin before and after exercise. We recommend our Foam Fighter; a daily foaming cleanser for gentle yet effective cleansing to remove impurities, surface oil and make-up. It is antibacterial and non-comedogenic.
- Moisturizing is of utmost importance. You must always keep hydrated both inside and outside! Drink water before, during and after sport to stay hydrated from within and moisturize your skin after you have showered. We recommend our Smart Hydrator; a moisturizer for acne prone skin that is intensively hydrating, non-sticky, soothes irritation and redness, and helps to regain control over demanding blemish-prone skin. Your skin will feel smooth and supple after the first application. The active ingredients seep deep into the skin to produce new healthier skin cells, rather than excess oils.
- If you do sport outdoors you have to wear a high protection sun cream, whatever the season! 95 % of the sun’s UV rays that reach the Earth’s surface is UVA. UVA can penetrate through glass and clothing. Even on a cloudy day 80% of UV rays can pass through. The sun produces free radicals that leads to long term damage on the skin. Wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15, even if it’s cloudy or you don’t plan on spending a lot of time outdoors. If you sweat a lot or go swimming, reapply sunscreen every 1½ to 2 hours (even if the bottle says the sunscreen is waterproof). We recommend our Control Freak SPF30 to provide weightless protection that helps keep your skin matte, reduce blemishes, soothes the skin and protects against harmful UV rays from the sun.
- Thoroughly clean your skin after sport to remove any remains of sweat, chlorine or salt. If you don’t have time to wash your face; use our Fresh Crusader toner wipes to clear the skin and provide intensive cleaning for the T-zone and other problem areas. It will also help to unclog the pores without over drying the skin and prevent blemishes.
- To prevent the pores from becoming blocked; exfoliate two to three times a week with our Power Powder exfoliating powder. It deeply cleans and unclogs your pores which can prevent breakouts. It is an oil-free formula and does not contain aggressive granules.
- Make sure your wash your hair after sport! Microbes, dirt, oils, sweat and dead cells can end up on your face from your hair. If you have oily and acne-prone skin, chances are that your hair is also oily. During exercise make sure you tie your hair up away from your face.
