Make Cleansing a Habit

Here’s How

At RITES, we believe that skincare is a journey – one that requires effort and action. It’s all too easy to keep wishing and dreaming, but skincare is so much more than this. It’s how you treat your mind and body: because the state of your health is reflected in your skin.

Basically, your body is always speaking to you!
Acne is normal. Severe acne that hurts or bothers you should be treated properly to avoid further infection and scarring. You can go to your local aesthetician, dermatologist or doctor. And of course; adopt RITES into your skincare routine. At the end of the day, a holistic (all-rounded) approach to skincare is the most effective.

So, without further ado, we asked our guest-writer, Jaime Peetz to take us through her daily health and skincare routine. Jaime understands that clearing up your skin is a process that needs consistency! Adopt a regular cleansing routine to make self-care a habit.

Jaime’s skincare routine:

MORNING ROUTINE:

  1. 6AM: I wake up and have a cup of tea.
We recommend ginger, lavender, Rooibos or green tea!
Note: You can also drink a glass of water in the morning. This boosts your metabolism and replaces moisture lost while you sleep. You can even pop in a slice of lemon for extra hydration, because staying hydrated from the inside out is essential to maintain a glowing complexion.
  2. 7AM: I have some breakfast (preferably a smoothie, see my recipe in the RITES Instagram feed) and I take my RITES Vita Skin Capsules. I then reply to important messages and emails.
  3. 8AM: I shower, using my RITES Foaming Cleanser and Control Freak SPF Moisturiser. An “SPF” means the moisturiser contains sunscreen, which we must wear daily in our sunny South African climate. I like this moisturiser because it tones and freshens up my skin for the day. After this I use the RITES Lip Balm for soft lips!
  4. 9AM: I’m ready to start my day.

NIGHT ROUTINE:

  1. 9PM: I have a cup of tea and finish any work.
  2. 9:30PM: I brush my teeth and use my RITES Foaming Cleanser and the Repair Moisturiser. I use this moisturiser at night as it is a thicker than the Control Freak, and I always wake up with the softest skin! And of course, I end my routine with my RITES Smooth Operator Lip Balm.
  3. 10:00: I fill my hot water bottle and jump into bed!

Every now and then I mix my face routine up and use the RITES Toner Wipes and Exfoliating Powder. I do this because skin type (combination skin) doesn’t need these every day.

Things to Consider

Initial breakouts
When starting a new skincare routine, you may experience an initial breakout or “purge.” This may seem counter-productive because the products are supposed to clear your skin – not make it worse! But this process is actually really good for your skin. It’s a sign that it’s clearing itself from the inside out. Give your skin at least 3 months to regulate. It seems like forever; but it’ll be worth it. We promise.

Extractions
To squeeze or not to squeeze? If you haven’t read our blog post “Why shouldn’t I squeeze?” give it a read to understand the science of why you shouldn’t use and abuse that poor zit. Because when it comes to using Rites, there is no need for extractions. The product, if used properly, unclogs and pushes out any underlying debris (or dirt) itself.

After using Rites for 2 months, this is what Jaime has to say:

“My skin used to feel pretty ‘rough’. There were small bumps along my jawline and on my cheeks. They weren’t usually too visible – unless it was a cold day, then they would go pink. However, I didn’t really like my skin feeling like that. And with the t-zone I struggled to find a balance – was always either too oily – or too dry…

Now, after using RITES, the main difference is the condition of my skin – it’s smooth and soft. It’s not oily and it’s not dry. I still have breakouts as every teenager will growing up – but the Disappearing Act helps speed up the process and those pimples are gone almost overnight. Yeah so no more small bumps – it’s completely soft there and it’’s just kinda balanced my skins condition.”
