What is acne?
No one factor causes acne. Acne occurs when the sebaceous (oil) glands are stimulated at the time of puberty or due to other hormonal changes. Acne is most common among teenagers, though it affects people of all ages. Sebum (oil) is a natural substance that lubricates and protects the skin. Acne is a condition that occurs when your follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. This leads to inflammation and bacterial infestation of P. Acnes. It often causes whiteheads, blackheads and pimples, and usually appears on the face, chest, upper back and shoulder. Acne signs and symptoms vary depending on the severity of the condition.
Acne treatments work by reducing oil production, fighting bacterial infection and reducing inflammation to help prevent scarring. Look out for power words such as antibacterial, germicidal, healing, repairing, protecting and mattifying on products.
