Why shouldn’t I squeeze?

Freeze! Drop your hands and don’t squeeze!

We have all been warned not to pop pimples, but why?

First, before you touch your skin (I know it’s tempting!), let’s take a look at what is happening under there. A pimple develops when a pore becomes filled with excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. Because the skin is already inflamed, squeezing only aggravates the inflammation.

When squeezing (even though we told you not to!), if you don’t feel that satisfying pop and release of debris, surprise! You just squeezed the excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria even deeper into your skin, only increasing the size of that darned zit. The chances are that you are going to wake up in the morning and your zit is going to be even more swollen, bigger and more eye-catching than it was before. Not what you were hoping for, is it?!

Okay, and what if you manage to “successfully” pop that pimple? You can still push infected material deeper into the skin, spreading the infection and inflammation that can cause scarring and dark spots.

Ever heard that when you pop a pimple, its friends arrive for the funeral? When you wake up in the morning and see a new pimple close to the one that you squeezed, it is not your imagination. Popping or picking at a pimple can spread bacteria, worsen the break-out or leave a scar. Do enough squeezing and you may turn that regular pimple into a more serious type of blemish, like a nodule or an acne cyst! Yikes!

There are safer and more effective ways to get rid of pimples. Rites Skin Solution has a WHOLE BUNCH of products that work to clear your skin and make pimples a thing of the past. Why squeeze, pick and cause more swelling when you can gently wash your face with Rites Foaming Face Wash, and feel refreshed and squeaky clean instead?

Self-care involves being responsible for your health, and being responsible for your health is being educated about it, too. Did you know that if you leave a pimple to run through its lifespan without irritating it by touching and picking (!!!) your zits stay will be short and sweet, lasting between 3 and 7 days. However, if you poke, pick, prick or prod a pimple it can linger for weeks and even months, leading to scarring and dark spots.

We know it is tempting to squeeze, but now you know that it really is that bad for your skin. Sorry to say it but all experts are RITE – don’t squeeze!
